This past Tuesday, July 12, 2011, was the deadline for Governor Neil Abercrombie to sign or veto all bills that passed the State Legislature this 2011 session.

  • A total of 235 bills became law, a few became law without the Governor’s signature.  Click here to see all the measured that are now law.
  • 17 measures that passed the Legislature were also vetoed by the Governor.  Click here to see the vetoed measures and the Governor’s reasoning.

Our government is for the people, by the people, so I encourage you to take a look at some of these measures and know what our State Legislature has been doing on our behalf.

If I haven’t expressed my appreciation to all of you that have supported me on my candidacy, I really can’t tell you how much I appreciate and value your sacrifice, volunteering, sign waving, contributing, well wishing, honking and voting. Thank you for the tireless hours that you have helped to make this an incredible campaign.

Dylan Nonaka, Executive Director of the Hawaii Republican Party, recently stated at a fundraiser that “We want to use (this campaign) as a model for other people (candidates) to see… This is how you run a campaign for the House.” This admiration can be attributed to my campaign manager, my family support system, community leaders, my mentors, friends, volunteer staff and of course the supporters and community of District 47.

Running an effective campaign takes countless hours of coordinating, planning, studying, researching, reading, meetings, calling, visiting and listening to the views of the people who live in Koolauloa and the surrounding areas.

In addition to the knowledge, experience and education that I have had throughout my life, I’ve drawn upon the life experience of those that I have met door-to-door, in community meetings and correspond with. I will take that collective knowledge to the House and represent our community to the best of my ability.

The bill aims to grant the congressional gold medal, collectively, to the 100th Infantry Battalion and the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, United States Army, in recognition of their dedicated service during World War II.

The battalion served with distinction in Italy, southern France, and Germany. During their service, the 100th Battalion and their regiment received 7 Presidential Unit Citations, 21 Medals of Honor, 29 Distinguished Service Crosses, 560 Silver Stars, 4,000 Bronze Stars, 22 Legion of Merit Medals, 15 Soldier’s Medals, and over 4,000 Purple Hearts, among numerous additional distinctions. According to the resolution, the 100th Battalion’s regiment was the most decorated unit in the military for its size and length of service.

In addition, Hawaii state house candidate Richard Fale stated:

“As someone who served in Afghanistan (Operation Enduring Freedom) only a year ago as part of the 100th Infantry Battalion and 442nd Regiment, I am extremely proud of the historical significance and dedication to our country that my predecessors exemplified.”

“If you haven’t already, I urge you to express your thanks to our state leaders for their unified support of this effort.”

I encourage you all to look at it before you vote in the upcoming Primary election and the General Election. Here’s the link to my survey answers. Please contrast my survey to my opponent’s survey answers. A few things jumped out at me:

  1. While my opponent maintains she’s against raising the GET tax, she didn’t talk about vote for raising DMV fees, oil barrel taxes, waste disposal surcharge (source: Grassroot Institute’s Legislative Scorecard)
  2. My opponent says she wants to fight for affordable housing, yet her campaign and supporters continue to oppose private affordable housing investment plans that are both fiscally and environmentally responsible.

This is a great survey presented to myself and other candidates who share similar pro-family values. It is interesting my opponent decided not to respond to this survey.

I also wanted to take the time to correct an important error in my answer to question #1 regarding physician assisted suicide. I have never in the past or present ever supported physician assisted suicide. Nor do I believe that my position on this issue will ever change. My personal beliefs are completely contrary to such a practice and I could NEVER support any legislation that would legalize it in Hawaii.
